This is my experiment with photo shop-- In case it's unclear. . . I am sitting on the grass with my guitar next to me. Lindsey was taking candid shots on Sunday afternoon and this is one of them.

Gold Medal Saturdays

I got to see Rach for the first time in forever today and it was neat to see her with her baby, Riley. I've been an olympic junkie after the beach this week and the crew (Jo, Catherine and Lindsey) are all here watching the womens swimming. We also woke up this morning and went running through the Duke trail and then to Cosmic Cantina (the best burrito place ever). It's strange to be here on the east coast and exercise agian-- you get completely covered in sweat in seconds.

Last night we rented a really cool movie: Shattered Glass. . . the whole family liked it, so if you haven't seen it, check it out. It's a true story about a journalist. Speaking of which, I ran into MS Pachino (my high school journalism teacher) today on 9th street. It was joyful reunion despite the tension during high school. We went running, made peach cobbler and had a great time!

Sven and I (the guy from spring summit that I was "talking" to) kind of "broke up" if you could call it that. It was kind of strange, but the jist of if was this: I was unwilling to yeild to a compromise (as far as moving or changing my plans) and so we just wouldn't be in the same place at the same time. I still like him-- he is super outdoorsy and I'm not sure exactly what's going on so we'll see what happens. He's going to be in Santa Barbara in the fall and New Zealand in the winter and I was going to BYU and I'm not sure about my winter plans. I'll see him next week(hopefull, last night he said he wasn't sure if he wanted to see me). . .we're planning on going to a bluegrass picnic in Jackson Hole, so I'll keep you posted on the details. . .

Beach bums

Here are the gals at the beach. . . this was our last morning and we were making smoothies, muffins and eggs. It was great fun!

The BIG APPLE

Okay-- I just got back from Milwaukee--->Baltimore--->New York City---->Washington DC---->Richmond---->Buena Vista---->Roanoke---->Durham!! Yeah!

This past weekend "The Girls" (Fern, me and jo) went to New York City together. I realized that I hadn't been in the city since I was seven, and it was all very new and exciting. We stayed right out of NY in Jersey and took this shady shuttle into town every day. . . Times Square was image overload, but it was neat to see all of the venders selling things. We went to the Metropolitan museam of art, China Town, Statue of liberty, Central Park and lots of other stuff.

Our friend John picked us up in Richmond and we hung out at his place in Buena vista, VA for a day and then he took us back down to Durham. It's nice to be back.

TIME TO GO TO THE BEACH! I'll write more later.

A surprise snapshot by Mary on Spring Summit

Okay, this is a strange picture. It was taken on Spring Summit and sent to me as a joke, but I figured I was in my tent and it shows my unwashed hair (I think that was going on two weeks). But hey. . . at least I brushed my teeth!

Flat or semi-gloss?

Well, here I am! I've just created my very own Blog-spot and joined the crew of the techonologically advanced Hatch's (ie: lindsey and ryan). I am still in Wisconsin right now and I am excitedly awaiting my return to 4809 Revere Road. I have joined the "Cobb Brother's Painting" crew and have been diligently taping, drop-clothing (okay, so that's not a verb-- actually, that's not a word), cutting in, rolling and painting the each house in L-30 (white) or ice cream (also white). We have knocked off probably 25 apartments and guess what? Tomorrow we'll be doing #26! I'm just glad to be earning some money. . . and actually recieving the paycheck is pretty exciting as well (to those of you who know what I mean).

On a Happy note (not that painting doesn't make me happy): Jo (that is carrie for those of you who are confused) and I have discovered some amazing bike trails. I love my bike. I love my bike. Let me just tell you guys that it keeps me sane. On friday we biked about 25 miles. We rode to the city of Verona on a back woods trail through the rolling meadows of Wisconsin. The wild flowers were out of control and it was beautiful! Zak Robinson actually stopped by and slept in a tent in the backyard for a few days on his way through to Ohio from Seattle. It was an interesting dynamic-- Zak with Carrie and Brian, but it was actually a really fun time. I actually feel bad for being critical of him. I know that he's trying to be a good person and is still the same ol' boy when I hang out with him.

I am still talking to Sven (the moutain man from Idaho who is working in the Tetons), but I'm not sure what will happen.
